Twenty Two

I didn't plan on making this blog but as my research has progressed tonight i have grown more and more baffled by the lack of academic texts on my topic. Yes i knew this going in, as i spent most of module two scouring the internet for texts However as i have been developing my themes and finding new key words to decribe my work, i thought i would finally hit gold with sources... NOPE! To my disbelief there doesn't seem to be a single book, thesis, or even article written on the globalisation of musical theatre (post 1930... and i think the worlds changed a bit since then...) maybe im looking in totally the wrong place but koretext, google scholar and just google cant seem to find it. im dealing with using sources that come close enough to what i need, but i just dont see how such a wide topic that ive heard spoken about in so many theatre environments, hasn't been written about? Even my surveys and interviews are proving that the general opinion is that MT is on the rise ...

Twenty One

To say my emotions have been on a roller coaster in regards to this research project for the past two weeks is an understatement! i have been sure of myself, confused, happy, sad, lost and all of the other feelings ahaha. Ive been getting amazing responses from my surveys and have now conducted 5 successful interviews; and yet with every bit of clarity i tried to gain, i feel all i got was more opinions that couldn't be put into one theme / box.  i feel like i can write and analyse about so many different subtopics but cant find my overall aim anymore. it was at this moment that my tutor reminded me to step back and take a look at what i initially set out to do; and remember that this project is about ME. i need to use these conversations ive been having with people to look into how i connect with them. i also interviewed myself with the same questions ive been asking others and it really helped me to gain perspective on my opinions vs what ive been gaining from others. i thi...

Twenty - buried in questions

Hope everyone is doing well!  I finally got my survey questions out and have a nice amount of responses so far. I now would love to get more opinions and a larger variety of people filling them out. I’ve been thinking I might make some social media posts as so far it has mainly reached my professional network rather than my social networking. Due to the nature of people I socialise with I think my surveys will do well going on platforms such as tiktok and insta.  I have also had a range of people agree to interview with me, now I just need to finalise times and days!  Where am I faltering? LITERATURE! I must be honest I definitely haven’t been prioritising my literature as much as I should have been, But I also think it’s valid to find the themes and patterns from my primary data so that I can find suitable texts rather thank reading books and articles that don’t end up having a correlation to what I end up leaning into. I’m not sure, maybe this is the wrong order t...

Nineteen - it’s been a minute

Wow ok,  So my last blog was in APRIL?! …. It’s September… and we’ve started our final module aka Research Proposal Time …. Let’s just digest that for a minute.  I’m going to use this blog to recap and go over whats happened in my life since April - both in this course and in my professional practice, because if I have learned anything so far it’s that all must connect back to our progressional practice!!  So I submitted my module two portfolio, received my mark; was happy but not happy enough, due to the fact that I strive for unrealistic perfection (working on that) and have no started module 3.  In my professional practice since April I have performed music, been cast in two more immersive theatre shows (I’m now working three different shows each week), released my debut song (big big moment for my career!!), learned how to promote myself as a singer/songwriter! I have also started working back at my old drama school (bringing my weekly job total to 5 ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚)....

Eighteen- not long to go

Hi,  Over a month, that’s how long is been since I’ve updated this blog… I’m not proud of how long it’s been but I feel like my work outside of this online space makes up for my lack of blogs. The lead up to the draft deadline and more form had me working for longer periods of time and once I handed that in I took Easter to not think about my work or worry about what’s to come. However that’s long gone now and I’m back to it. I recognise I have a lot to get done before the final deadline, which is arriving much too soon for my liking ahahha. Until the draft comes back I’ve decided to take this time to work out what needs to be finished, and give myself a timeline for these final few weeks of module two. Some of this will depend on how much of my draft needs editing but for the most part it’s the writing up of things I’ve not yet done - such as the Gantt chart (which for some reason feels much more daunting than it should) and critical reflection. I don’t want to write my crit...

Seventeen - final ideas

Hello,  It’s been a while! I promised myself I’d update my blog after my tutor meeting however two meetings later and I’m finally able to update; I have my final idea! (Kinda?)  I think finals a strong word and one that I probably shouldn’t be using yet as my topic/question is bound to grow and develop BUT my 4 questions from before are now just 1 question, which is good enough for me at the moment.  “To what extent does going to an international drama school effect one’s outlook on the musical theatre industry” -  The wording is very much yet to be determined but you get the idea.  From the very start I’ve wanted to look at experiences from people around the world including my own experiences of travelling against the musical theatre industry in the uk, and I feel that going to an international drama school was a huge factor in this. I also have so many questions around why the country I’ve grown up in seems to be a hub for musical theatre in a massively ...

Sixteen - check in

Hello,  Not much to post about because I haven’t really made any tangible progress but hopefully that will change after my meeting this Friday.  I’ve tried to organise and reduce my ideas to a few main questions that all sit within my topic but focus on different details. At the moment I have 4 questions to choose from and work my research from.  I’ve made a list of books and links that feel related to my topic HOWEVER I must admit there’s not as many academic sources related to my topic as I had anticipated,,, I’m hoping this doesn’t become a roadblock. I am passionate about the direction I’m going in and I’m working to find enough sources to aid my project as I really don’t want to change it. Let’s see what happens I guess.  Until next time  T,D
