I didn't plan on making this blog but as my research has progressed tonight i have grown more and more baffled by the lack of academic texts on my topic. Yes i knew this going in, as i spent most of module two scouring the internet for texts However as i have been developing my themes and finding new key words to decribe my work, i thought i would finally hit gold with sources... NOPE! To my disbelief there doesn't seem to be a single book, thesis, or even article written on the globalisation of musical theatre (post 1930... and i think the worlds changed a bit since then...) maybe im looking in totally the wrong place but koretext, google scholar and just google cant seem to find it. im dealing with using sources that come close enough to what i need, but i just dont see how such a wide topic that ive heard spoken about in so many theatre environments, hasn't been written about? Even my surveys and interviews are proving that the general opinion is that MT is on the rise ...
To say my emotions have been on a roller coaster in regards to this research project for the past two weeks is an understatement! i have been sure of myself, confused, happy, sad, lost and all of the other feelings ahaha. Ive been getting amazing responses from my surveys and have now conducted 5 successful interviews; and yet with every bit of clarity i tried to gain, i feel all i got was more opinions that couldn't be put into one theme / box. i feel like i can write and analyse about so many different subtopics but cant find my overall aim anymore. it was at this moment that my tutor reminded me to step back and take a look at what i initially set out to do; and remember that this project is about ME. i need to use these conversations ive been having with people to look into how i connect with them. i also interviewed myself with the same questions ive been asking others and it really helped me to gain perspective on my opinions vs what ive been gaining from others. i thi...
