Good morning,
I am back to finish my blog from the other day. in the previous blog I intended to talk about the quotes I had found as well as review my tutoring session and recent group class, however I decided to end on the quotes and start fresh here with the second part of my agenda.
Our group class this week was all about our influences, finding our influences and looking at our influences from different perspectives. I had already made a long list of my influences and categorised them before this class however throughout this class I found so many more influences to add that I would have never expected. for example I realised that I had negative experiences that influenced me just as much as the positive ones. before this class I hadn't considered how the result of a negative experience can influence you to do the things you always wanted to do; obviously in life I had realised this, just not in the context of this project. hearing what the rest of the group saw as their influences was super interesting as there were some factors that all of us seemed to connect on. for example almost everyone had had an experience of theatre at a young age, which had stuck with them their whole lives - me included.
Things I wanted to think more about after this class:
- the special relationships that for in the rehearsal room and the feeling when that ends
- access to the arts from a social economic standpoint
- the importance of supportive parents / family members
My one to one tutoring session was the last one I was having before I officially draft my essay. I came to him with my essay plan hoping not to find any red flags before I get on and start writing. everything went well but I am now focusing on trying to find the way in which I want to tell my story. before this session I was looking at the essay as ' what points do I need to get across', while Pedro urged me to think of it like a story, I'm a creative after all. how do I want to tell this? how do the three topics merge? what order should I talk about them in? I have decided that I think I will find these answers out as I write more in depth about my topics. I tend to write too much let all my thoughts out on the page and then sort through them, find the most relevant parts and see the patterns flowing through my writing. I'm hoping this method works for this essay too but I guess that's something ill find out by next week ahaha.
Although I think writing the essay properly will confirm this for sure, so far I feel that what ties my topics together are that all of my areas of learning are because of another area of learning. all of the things I've decided to talk about have changed the path I am on as a creative, one way or another. each of these topics have opened my eyes to new theories or new learning possibilities for me in this industry. almost like each of the learning topics I will be talking about could be classed as my biggest influences themselves.
signing off for now,
TD
Hope your essay writing went well! Those are interesting topics to consider, definitely the supportive parents part, that made me think about the 'pushy' parents Ive encountered in my practice and how some of them have driven their talented kids to then resent dance
